“Soy producers want you to eat more soy — more than the Asians eat, and more than is good for you. The Japanese and Chinese eat 10 grams of soy per day — about two teaspoons. Yet a soy manufacturer recommends Americans eat ten times what the Japanese eat — 100 grams of soy protein per day. In The Soy Zone, Barry Sears recommends a daily diet of a minimum of 50 grams of soy, and up to 75 grams for women and 100 grams for men. It’s like red wine: a glass or two a day may be good for you; a bottle or two every day rots your liver. Did you catch that? Asians only eat 2 teaspoons of soy a day, usually as a condiment, and it’s highly fermented! Fermentation takes care of many of the dangers of soy. Plus, the typical Asian will also consume soy with mineral-rich and nutrient-dense foods such as fish broth (naturally high in iodine & other minerals which support the thyroid).”

“A new Gallup poll finds that Americans who experience heart attacks are twice as likely to have been diagnosed with depression — 30.1 percent vs. 15 percent. In addition, twice as many heart attack survivors (16.5 percent) report being currently treated for depression when compared to people who’ve never had a heart attack (8.1 percent).”
“Women who are satisfied with their lives have a higher bone density in the golden years, suffering less frequently from osteoporosis than those who are not, according to a new study at the University of Eastern Finland. Osteoporosis is a disease that can lead to bone fracture due to dwindling density and post-menopausal women are the most at-risk. Low levels of physical activity and smoking are commonly cited causes leading to osteoporosis, but psychological factors such as depression-related stress could be playing a larger role than previously thought.”
“Researchers have demonstrated for the first time that chronic periodontitis, an inflammatory gum disease which provokes gradual teeth loss, is closely related to the severity of acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as heart attack.”
His team used blood samples from the twin pairs, who ranged in age from 8 to 82, to track more than 200 activities and components of the immune system. In three-quarters of the measurements, differences between pairs of twins were more likely due to non-heritable influences – such as previous infections or vaccinations, even nutrition – than genetics, the researchers reported in the journal Cell.

Green tea and its extracts have been widely touted as potential treatments for cancer, as well as several other diseases. But scientists have struggled to explain how the green tea and its extracts may work to reduce the risk of cancer or to slow the growth of cancer cells.”

Folic Acid Supplements Driving Down Birth Defects
“Serious birth defects of the brain and spine called neural tube defects have fallen 35 percent in the United States since mandatory folic acid fortification of enriched grain products was introduced in 1998, federal officials reported Thursday. That decrease means 1,300 fewer babies are born annually with neural tube defects such as spina bifida, the most common neural tube defect that, in severe cases, can cause partial or complete paralysis of the parts of the body below the waist.”
“One of the worst things you can do to your body is feed it sugar — not necessarily natural sugar like the kind found in fruit, but refined sugar. A team of scientists from the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF) recently pored through more than 8,000 scientific papers on how sugar affects the body and came to the conclusion that it not only makes people fat but also makes them sick.”
